Death Note American Version Out Soon! Guess Who Is Casted As Light!
For all you anime fans out there, there’s a little manga that became an anime, which has now evolved into a 3-part live action film. If you’re hard-core, you probably already know what I’m talking about. You guessed it right, Death Note. For those that do not know, the story revolved on Light, a college student who finds a notebook lying on the ground coined “Death Note”. He “reluctantly” picks it up and that is when havoc ensues…
He basically can write anyone’s name down in the book with his or her face in mind and kill him or her off with the jot of a pen. Later on it becomes a whole moral issue on who he kills, why and a very entertaining cat and mouse game. Think of CSI and Law & Order multiplied by a thousand. It is one of the most exciting intellectual dramas I have encountered and I implore you to check it out!
Now for the news .. the American version of this film is set to come out through Vertigo very soon and they have already have an actor for the role of Light Yagami. That actor being Zack Efron, the kid from the High School musical movies! Ok , perhaps he can play the pretty boy end of it but I do not see him playing the evil , power hungry Light Yagami later seen as the anime and film progresses. I do not care who plays Light as long as Johnny Depp plays L ! Can you possibly think of a better actor playing the weird , eccentric and adorable L ? I didn’t think so! Below is Zack Efron for those who did not know what he looks like and too lazy to.

Fuggit. Just import Kenichi Matsuyama and get him to learn or improve his English, since there’s no other gaijin or native Japanese who can compete with him for the part.

I must admit he did play a good L in the Japanese movie versions but I am hoping for Johnny Depp to play him though he may be to old. Maybe if there as a redone American cartoon version from Tim Burton! That would be bad ass come to think of it!
The american version is going to be a disgrace without Kenichi especially with zac efron being apart of it.

Zack Efron is last on my list of what worries me about this film being made. My main concern is if Hollywood will actually care to put in the effort to make this movie as great as the anime and the live action movies or will they just put out some teen/tween garbage to compete with Twilight.

I concur, I did not even think Twilight was that big a deal, I have seen such better fantasy and love stories in animes. I really hope they do not ruin Death Note!

Omg Let’s hope to god Kenichi improves his English no one is sexier than him to be L. L has a subtle sex appeal unlike Lights character who is annoyingly perfect.
L is an icon and Kenichi was and is the only person to play him perfectly.
Kenichi Matsuyama is too jjang to replace. I’m no fan of Zac Efron and HSM was blah, but based on acting alone, he’s fine. I’m still against an American L version though, I just hope they can change my mind when they release the movie. It’s WB, after all.
I’m not so upset about Zac Efron playing Light (if this is true). You have to admit that he is the spitting image. And I think it’s unfair that people just see him for musicals and kids movies and nothing else. I’m not even a fan of his, but hey if he can pull off something a bit more dramatic and serious, I’m open-minded, and I may change my mind.
Is there any confirmation that he’s doing the lead though? Because I’ve been hearing this rumor for about a year now, so…

OK OK OK!!!!! I DON’T THINK SO!!!! Look, I am a huge fan of Death Note, I have seen the Anime and All Three of the Japanese versions of the movies. For one, I think it should be left alone. Number two, if I were you, I would ask Alessandro Juliani, who was the english voice of L in the anime and the english dubbed versions of the originals to be L. He knows the story. I am not saying that Johnny Depp wouldn’t make a good L, and I love him to death, but lets look at our options here people. Personally, I would have LEFT IT ALONE! The Japanese actors did an excellet job!!! Plus it will be HARD to replace Kenichi Matsuyama who played L in the original movies… He IS L!!! As Well AS Alessandro… guys think about it!! Because right now, you have an upset fan who thinks you should leave it alone… I am not sure how other fans feel, but that is MY opinion. And Zack Efron? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!

I don’t think this is probably going to have any chance of happening. But Estonian pop singer “Kerli” is the absolute best choice to play Misa Amane. The whole goth barbie doll style is down pat, she’s the right age, and has the perfect amount of creepiness to capture Misa. I’m voting no to Zac Efron though, he seems way too one dimensional to play a character as multi-layered as Light, if that makes sense.

the japanese anime and the japanese movies are original and are probably the best its going to get, even if the american version has better graphics or whatever, i am completely turned off by the cast and how the movie will sound in english.

I just think that they’re going to completely change it and make it completely horrible, Death Note is fine they way it is, us Death Note fans have our movies already… Hollywood is just going to kill it and as a big Death Note fan they are going to ruin the anime, just like they ruined all the japanese horror movies… I’m sorry if this sounds offensive but American movies suck now! And they suck even more when they take perfectly good material and change it around, it’s just crap and real Death Note fans will not watch this and if they do, well they’ll probably be disappointed! THIS IS A BAD IDEA!!!
hey who knows only because we have seen him(when i say we i mean you people) in high school musical movies doesnt mean he doesnt have a mean strik in his acting talent…. anyways he looks almost like him so why not, if not him then why not jesse spencer(House MD – Dr. Chase) i saw i picture of him and he looks very much like light and i can see him being the main character/bad guy why not someone tell Vertigo about him come on some one!!!!
