NEW King of Kong: Dr. Hank Chien Breaks Record, PerezStart Predicted It

We usually don’t flatter ourselves but in honor of the Donkey Kong hi-score record we will. Back in August, our retro writer, Gonzalo, predicted that Dr. Hank Chien will surpass the 1 million mark and eventually set the new record for Donkey Kong. Guess what, he did!

Dr. Chien surpassed the 1,050,200 Donkey Kong mark set by Billy Mitchell, with an unbelievable score of 1,061,700 in 2 hours and 35 minutes according to Twin Galaxies officials, ending the game on the famed kill screen.

The Perezstart.com staff first met Hank early in 2009 at a Richie Knucklez competition in Flemington, NJ. We remember seeing Hank playing on the Donkey Kong arcade machine wearing his medical scrubs. We then saw Hank again at the Richie Knucklez’s Invitational, and noticed something special brewing after he broke the 900k mark. Hank is a cool and calm customer, he has nerves of steel and exudes brilliance with every move that he makes.

Hank began practicing Donkey Kong on the MAME version and then invested in his own Donkey Kong arcade machine. The game of Donkey Kong requires impeccable hand eye- coordination and precision. It is only natural that the steady hands of a Plastic Surgeon could attain this phenomenal feat.

Personally, Dr. Chien is a very pleasant and kind person to interact with. We had a chance to sit with him back in August and speak to him about his plans and goals. At that time, we saw the determination in his eyes and made the bold prediction of breaking the 1,000,000 mark and taking the holy grail of all video game records, the number one spot Donkey Kong!

Dr. Hank Chien hails from NYC where he practices plastic surgery in his office in Flushing, NY. He has a computer science/mathematics degree from Harvard, attended medical school at Mt. Sinai Medicine and completed his residency in Vanderbilt University.

Will the record be challenged by Wiebe/Mitchell? Hank is already positioned to increase his high score even further. We at Perezstart.com feel that his record will never be broken since Hank has brought the record to an unreachable level now.

New York Comic Con & New York Anime Fest Sharing The Same Weekend in 2010

Comic book, gaming, anime, and figurine fans who actively partake in either the New York Comic Con or New York Anime Fest will be delighted to learn that the Jacob Javits Center is going to get a lot more interesting come 2010. Reed Exhibitors, who are the organizers behind the New York Comic Con & New York Anime Fest, announced both shows will take place at the Jacob Javits Center on October 8-10.

The reason behind the “co-lation” between the two big New York cons was due in part with the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo taking place in April. The New York Comic Con was held in February this past year, but now organizers state October will be the New York Comic Con’s permanent date.

Con goers can expect their ticket to get them into both the New York Comic Con & New York Anime Fest. If you buy a NYCC ticket, you can certainly attend the NYAF and vice-versa, although both cons will maintain distinct guests and programming space, but share a common show floor. So for those of you who have had a slight interest in one or the other industry, this is a great opportunity for you to explore a bit.

Both the New York Comic Con & New York Anime Fest have seen an amazing amount of growth the past couple of years. How exactly the organizers of both cons will fit all of that goodness into the Jacob Javits Center is something I would love to see.

All 2’s (sequels) on the last day of E3. The final day of E3 is approaching. While E3 will be coming to a close today the games that were announced, demo’d and trailer’d will continue in development until their release date. But let’s not allow the conclusion of E3 affect our heads that much. There are some great games worth checking out today and we have today’s and previous day’s schedule below.

We’ll hopefully get to see more of Shepard in Mass Effect 2 in BioWare’s presentation. More Modern Warfare 2 footage is always good. Although I’m having a hard time seeing Soap as higher ranked soldier now.

And the Heavy Rain images and trailers have looked amazing thus far. Will the in-game footage hold up?

E3 2009: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Just Announced

In a Konami Press conference Hideo Kojima has announced that he will be making 4 NEW games. Among those titles, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. The whip will continue to strike, as the new character Gabriel, whose mask can bring the dead back to life, will be the main character.

Patrick Stewart was narrating the trailer. The story is of a hero looking for “revenge and retribution” and being developed by Mercurysteam and Kojima Productions. Castlevania: Lords of Shadows will be on both PS3 and 360 in 2010.

E3 2009: Leaked God of War III Screenshots, Kratos Impressive

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s Sony press conference, these images have surfaced in the latest batch of God of War III screenshots. The GOW3 pics showcase none other than Kratos ripping the flesh off his foes and a flaming Titan overlooking the destruction.

I’ll admit, releasing God of War III in 2010 was a major setback for most PS3 owners, but I knew that Sony’s 2009 fiscal year ends on March 31, 2009 plus the past God of War’s have all made their debut in March. So after many 1 + 1’s it added up to March 2010.

How do you guys feel about the news? Do you think the release date will help in the development?

E3 2009: Schedule of Events, God of War III, Star Wars Old Republic and Left 4 Dead 2 Showcased

So I said it was going to be hard for anyone to compete with Microsoft’s impressive press conference on Monday. I may have been mistaken. Nintendo and Sony made some huge announcements with Metroid, New Super Mario Bros for the Wii and Agent and God of War III gameplay for the PS3.

So what will today bring? Highlights of today’s press conference will be Star Wars: The Old Republic. Hopefully they will elaborate on the fully voice system they mentioned on Monday.

Batman Arkham Asylum will get a few heads turning, but don’t expect this title to be released on it’s original release date.

The highlight from yesterday’s show was for sure, Steve Wiebe’s attempt at breaking Billy Mitchell’s Donkey Kong record. Although he did not beat the hi-score, he achieved the first ever KILL SCREEN on LIVE TV, way to go Steve.

Wow, yesterday’s E3 press conferences were very impressive with Microsoft stealing the show. It will be hard to compete with the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Rising heading to the XBox 360 and breaking it’s traditional exclusivity to Sony. So what’s in store today? Nintendo will be leading the wave at 9:00 AM PDT (12:00 PM EDT) followed by Sony at 11:00 AM PDT (2:00 PM EDT). Rumors speculate a new Mario game will be announced on the Wii. Sony will show off God of War III in it’s HD Glory. Check out the rest of today’s Press Conferences below:

Sony and Nintendo will really have to blow me away after Micorosoft’s VERY succesful Press Conference yesterday. Something tells me one of them will have an Ace up their sleeve.

E3 2009: Star Wars The Old Republic will be Fully Voiced Over

The upcoming title from LucasArts and BioWare, Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) will have full voice over for every character in the game. Which means, every character you encounter will have a speaking role. Whether you interact with local merchant from a thrift shop, a standing guard at any palace or the supporting Star Wars characters, they all will speak.

This adds a new aspect of MMO gaming. Not only will the story change from speaking each character, the gameplay will change if you replay the game using a different class.

I may have to reconsider playing this MMO after the debacle that was Star Wars Galaxy. If BioWare is involved, you know it will be pure Star Wars entertainment!

E3 2009: Metal Gear Solid Coming to Xbox 360, MGS Rising

[UPDATE] – Raiden will star in Metal Gear Solid Rising.

WOW, breaking news! Hideo Kojima just stepped on stage at this years E3 to announce that the Metal Gear Solid franchise is heading to the Xbox 360!. The title will be called Metal Gear Solid: Rising. This news will surely infuriate PS3 owners who always felt a tight grip on the title being an exclusive game for PlayStattion 3. But as this news rocks the gaming world, Metal Gear Solid will become THAT much bigger.

Metal Gear Solid Rising is currently in development for the Xbox 360. And oh yeah, Raiden will be back. More news when we get it. For now, either weep or celebrate for Metal Gear Solid: Rising.

[UPDATE] - Raiden, one of the most popular characters in the Metal Gear Solid universe, will star in the all-new title from Hideo Kojima. Raiden first debuted in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system as a playable character and appeared as a non-playable cyborg in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.
