Review: MLB 2K10; This Year It’s Different

March 10th, 2010 mrjuandrful 6 comments

MLB 2K 10

Spring training is finally here and it’s time to strap up your batting gloves and pine tar your bats because it’s Baseball Season for MLB 2K10. In their 10th year, 2K Sports revamped their fielding system and improved on their pitching mechanics then they previously used in MLB 2K9 only keeping the “hold and gesture” for pitching accuracy and quality of pitches. Developed by Visual Concepts, a new hitting system called Total Control Hitting is used flicking the right analog stick.  This means your swing controls become more timed than ever. For the first time, you’ll be able to create your own ball player in the “My Player” mode and groom yourself into a future first ballot Hall of Famer making your way up through your farm team of choice.  The noticeable enhancements from MLB 2K 9 are great.  But should you draft MLB2k 10 and let it try out for you?

Derek Jeter Playing CF in MLB 10 The Show? Glitches present rumors…

March 8th, 2010 Qrey-zee 1 comment

Derek Jeter MLB 10 The Show

Does anyone see something wierd with the lineups in MLB 10 The Show? If not, you will if you study the Yankee lineup. Somehow “The Show” has Derek Jeter playing center field and Curtis Granderson playing short stop. Yes, they’re swapped.  When I first saw this I thought I had done something wrong myself until a friend on the PSN had the same issue. Is that a sign from heaven telling us that Jeter will be with the Yankees but for a short time? Hmmm….. Think about it folks Bernie Williams, Johnny Damon, me…… Sorry wandered off to dream land. I personally think that The Show should fix that quick to avoid NY fans from going crazy over this very wrong doing.  Although I did show off his range in Center Field with a couple of web gems.

Another glitch that is currently affecting PS3 owners is the lack of audio during online play. It seems the headset issue is an ongoing one, since most gamers can not communicate with their oppoenent. Very frustrating. MLB 10: The Show will push out an update today, March 8th, 2010, to update the rosters and possibly other fixes. We’ll post the updates later today.

Heavy Rain

I’m sure many of you checked out our Heavy Rain review. I know I did. ;) But this game is getting more controversial every day. We know Madison, one of the four playable characters undresses in her shower scene where she.. wait for it… gets nude! But more nakedness is hitting the news. Glitch?  I say nay.  Careful, nudity is just around this post…

New Borderlands DLC Released: The Secret Armory of General Knoxx

March 2nd, 2010 Lanky Bastard 1 comment

generalknoxx hed info 600x239 New Borderlands DLC Released: The Secret Armory of General Knoxx

Some fresh downloadable content from Gearbox Software is now available for everybody’s favourite cell-shaded sci-fi shooter, Borderlands. The Secret Armory of General Knoxx brags new enemies, bosses, missions, guns, and landscapes. As expected, the level cap has been bumped up, but by a very curious amount: 11, making the new cap level 61. There’s also a new vehicle that looks like some kind of ATV or Jeep. Personally, I just wrapped The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, and am sniffing around Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, but considering the reviews I’ve read were less than stellar, I may just skip it and go right to Knoxx. The general consensus about this DLC so far is that it is the biggest and hardest to date.

Those who have maxed out their characters in Borderlands will be happy to pick up The Secret Armory of General Knoxx for the extra levels-worth of loot and gameplay – you can grab it from Steam for $9.99.

Video trailer after the jump!

Back Online, PlayStation Network Error 8001050F Fixed

March 1st, 2010 mrjuandrful 30 comments

PSN Back Online

While there has been no official word from Sony PlayStation, the good news is the PlayStation Network (PSN) is back up.  Logging into the PSN, there are no noticeable defects.  You should be able to log-in right into the PSN like nothing ever happened.  For those of us on the east coast, your gaming (assuming you went to work today) was delayed by only 2 hours.

PerezStart.com staff has logged into the PSN and everything seems to be OK on the 60GB and 40GB models.  Fortunately, the PS3 Slim Back Online, PlayStation Network Error 8001050F Fixed
did not suffer from the outbreak…

We’ll be sure to let you know, what exactly was done to fix the issue.  For now, log-in to the PSN and if you have received any follow up error messages, we want to know about them.  Post your issues in the comments below.  Xbox 360 gamers, please leave your fanboy comments at the door.  No one wants to hear “Xbox Live never goes down”.  For a service your paying for, I should hope not.

The PlayStaion Network is now online.

The Answer To PSN Error 8001050F, Leap Year

March 1st, 2010 mrjuandrful 1 comment

Leap Year

Do you know what today’s date is? Yup, it’s March 1st, 2010. Do you know what the PSN date is? Apparently, it thinks it’s February 29th, 2010… LEAP YEAR. That’s right, Leap Year is what caused this massive network downtime for most PS3 customers. The PS3 thinks Leap Year is every two years. Unfortunatley, this issue is related only to hardware since the PS3 Slims The Answer To PSN Error 8001050F, Leap Year
aren’t reporting any issues (newest PS3 model). The internal clock thinks it’s Feb. 29th, while the OS clock does not have the date 02/29/10 available since it doesn’t exist. This is causing the older model PS3’s back to 12/31/99. For those wondering, this issue did not happen in 2008, because it was a leap year then. Look out 2012.. the end of the world and PSN Leap Year!

This issue is preventing any PS3 games to played on their currently “bricked” systems. For now, if you haven’t turned on your PS3, Don’t! You run the risk of corrupting data saves, PSN purchases including videos, games etc. and PS3 trophies.

Some major programming issues to the PS3 caused this issue and needs to be patched through firmware. But the problem will not be fixed by today. Today doesn’t exist! Stay tuned for more news. If the option to connect and patch exists, we’ll be sure to inform you how.

UPDATE 3: PlayStation Network is down, error 8001050F

March 1st, 2010 mrjuandrful 55 comments

PSN

network down UPDATE 3: PlayStation Network is down, error 8001050FThe PlayStation Network is currently experiencing issues.  The infamous “8001050F” error code is preventing user’s from signing in and it’s also effecting trophy based games.  For those with the new PlayStation slim, you will not have an issue.  Most problems are reported by older PS3 owners, 20GB, 40GB, 80GB versions and not the PS3 Slim UPDATE 3: PlayStation Network is down, error 8001050F
.  Sony is working on the problem and does not have an estimate on when the problem will be fixed.

Here is the error message:

8001050F – Hardware failure. Cannot update Firmware or connect to Internet

Games in particular that are seeing problems are Heavy Rain.  It seems the game reboots the console upon starting up the game.  While I know this may be frustrating, we’ll keep you updated on when the PSN will be back up and running.

Here is the latest message from Sony’s PlayStation’s Twitter:

We’re aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we’re looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.

PSN status update: We’re narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all. Updates as soon as we have them.

PSN status update (part 2): Readers/followers are confirming that “slim” units (120/250 GB models) are connecting normally.

UPDATE 1 (5:45pm EDT): PlayStation Network is still down. Sony also advises to stay off the PS3 since the game data and trophies may be affected.

Errors include:

* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
* When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”
* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
* Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

UPDATE 2 (6:23pm EDT):  Leap Year is apparently causing the problem. Read about it here.

UPDATE 3 (6:50pm EDT): Great News!  PSN is back up and running.  No official word from Sony.

Think You’re Safe In Helicopers in Battlefield: Bad Company 2? Think again

February 27th, 2010 Daniel Perez No comments

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is getting ready to be released this Tuesday and you can be sure you’ll be facing some stiff competition online, thanks to EA offering a beta on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

One feller you might want to stay clear of next week is ‘AnXieTy BuRnS‘.  Judging by the video above, he is one sniper whose crosshairs you don’t want anywhere near you.  Although, I bet he’s just god awful when it comes to melee attacks.
