It’s not edible. Nor is it a microphone. This Ice Cream looking device is Sony’s latest Motion-sensitive Controller called The PlayStation Move and it’s going to amaze you. Releasing this Fall, the PlayStation Move will sell as either a standalone controller, bundled with the PlayStation Eye or with a PS3. No price yet…

For those questioning the device, understand that this Motion Controller is different compared to the Nintendo Wii-mote. While the PlayStation Move does feature the main controller with a sphere attached to the end and a nunchuck sidekick, they are both wireless. The PlayStation Move will also charge it’s battery via usb cable like the Dualshock Sixaxis PS3 controller does now.

Move Buttons: The PS3 classic buttons are all on the face of the controller. The Move also has a home button and a trigger on the backside which makes it look like an advanced karaoke mic. The nunchuck also has the similar buttons including a d-pad.

Move Colors: Those colors you see are made to be used in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye. The Move will generate a color that is not detected in the room thus allowing the PlayStation Home to communicate with it more accurately.

Move Wireless: As I mentioned above, there are two controllers. The main controller with a strap and the nunchuck that goes in your off hand. Using both Move controllers is made more for Move games. Best of all, both controllers can be charged with the usb cable and do not require batteries.

Move Games: Right now, the Move was demo’d for some games including Table Tennis; shooter and fighting games. Also making news is PlayStation Move supported The Shoot a new light gun shooter game from Sony.

As we get closer to the projected Fall release date, we’ll be sure to get details regarding price, supported games etc. For now, know that the PS3 joins the Wii with their own Motion sensitive controller. Wait, wasn’t the Sixaxis supposed to be motion controlled…

In an effort that many are calling “too late”, Microsoft tries to fix their errors reported yesterday by going back on their initial reports of “a very low percentage of restoring data” to “We’re pleased to announce… that most (if not all data) has been restored. Microsoft has released a new statement this morning about the data recovery progress…Here is the message…

Microsoft Confirms Data Recovery for Sidekick Users

Data Restoration to Begin as Soon as Possible for Affected Customers

Dear T-Mobile Sidekick customers,

On behalf of Microsoft, I want to apologize for the recent problems with the Sidekick service and give you an update on the steps we have taken to resolve these problems.

We are pleased to report that we have recovered most, if not all, customer data for those Sidekick customers whose data was affected by the recent outage. We plan to begin restoring users’ personal data as soon as possible, starting with personal contacts, after we have validated the data and our restoration plan. We will then continue to work around the clock to restore data to all affected users, including calendar, notes, tasks, photographs and high scores, as quickly as possible.

We now believe that data loss affected a minority of Sidekick users. If your Sidekick account was among those affected, please continue to log into these forums for the latest updates about when data restoration will begin, and any steps you may need to take. We will work with T-Mobile to post the next update on data restoration timing no later than Saturday.

We have determined that the outage was caused by a system failure that created data loss in the core database and the back-up. We rebuilt the system component by component, recovering data along the way. This careful process has taken a significant amount of time, but was necessary to preserve the integrity of the data.

We will continue working closely with T-Mobile to restore user data as quickly as possible. We are eager to deliver the level of reliable service that our incredibly loyal customers have become accustomed to, and we are taking immediate steps to help ensure this does not happen again. Specifically, we have made changes to improve the overall stability of the Sidekick Service and initiated a more resilient backup process to ensure that the integrity of our database backups is maintained.

Once again, we apologize for this situation and the inconvenience that it has created. Please know that we are working all-out to resolve this situation and restore the reliability of the service.

Sincerely,
Roz Ho
Corporate Vice President
Premium Mobile Experiences, Microsoft Corporation

Thank you Microsoft for working so hard to fix the issue! BUT ITS TOO LATE!!!

How many users have already abandoned the sinking Titanic??! Did you expect the users to wait and twiddle their thumbs for weeks for their data to return? Its a noble effort but the damage has already been done! Furthermore, to add insult to injury, we can no longer be grandfathered into the $19.99 unlimited plan once we leave. The T-Mobile rep was very very VERY clear stating to me, “once I remove the $19.99 plan from your system and add you to another data service plan (which is $34.99) , you can never never NEVER go back to the $19.99 unlimited plan ever ever EVER again!. I GET THE POINT! I just want out!

and many many more…..

All in all, this is a wonderful piece for the retro gamer. There is even an active community of developers that are writing for the unit, the possibilities are endless!

Q. What do these things have in common? God of War, God of War 2 and Final Fantasy X. A. They’re all games made for the PS2 and not playable on the PS3 unless you have a Backwards Compatible (BC) PS3. Those PS3’s include the original 60gb PS3’s (hardware emulation chip) and the original 80gb PS3 (software emulation).

Sony has recently filed for a new patent that could make those backwards compatibility issues a thing of the past. Submitted back in December of 2008, this patent would allow the PS3’s Cell chip to translate code from the PS2’s Emotion Engine. What does this mean for you? Well, since Sony is against commenting on rumors, this could be several possibilities.

1. This patent could be for the new PS3 slims that has also been rumored to hit store shelves soon.

2. PS2 discs could be played flawlessly on any model PS3.

3. Only PS2 titles available on the PlayStation Store would be playable thanks to the patent.

So while there are many speculations, know that Sony IS working on some sort of PS2 emulation. In the meantime, keep your eyes open for any PS2 discounts that are PS3 worthy. Did I mention God of War yet?

Oh boy, just looking at the picture above gives me goose bumps! This is the system that started it all. The Atari 400 home computer system. It had 4 controller slots, a cartridge slot and a membrane keyboard. Playing Pacman, Donkey Kong and Q-bert on this unit felt like playing it in the arcade. Most importantly, it was my first exposure to programming via the BASIC language. We would get manuals and write up test programs. Great learning experience for us in our youth.

I also enjoyed the box art of the games. You can tell that they spent a good amount of money and time at the time to create a masterpiece on the cover of the boxes. That is more than what I can say about a few of the games that are released these days. I was not impressed with my last two purchases, Street Fighter IV and Punchout’s box art was pretty awful in my opinion.

A year or so later, we picked our first tape drive or program recorder. The Atari 410..

We would buy games in cassette tape format and play them on the Atari 400. It was our first disk drive if you will. It was mostly used for recording computer programs that one would write utilizing the BASIC language. The Atari 400 did not have a big enough hard drive to satisfy the recording required. This is the system that introduced the PerezStart.com Family into technology. All of us have chosen to work in a technology related field and we have this system to thank. It opened up our imagination and motivated us to pursue the interest of computers at a very young age. I remember my dad telling me that he purchased this unit with a Christmas bonus he received from his job. Thanks dad not only thinking of your children, but for selecting a “computer” for christmas. You planted the seed for your children’s future!

Which computer system did you own in the 80’s? Do you still have the unit stored away in your closet?

This is horrible news, just two Christmas’s ago I begged and pleaded for a Pleo to be my new toy/pet and Santa came through and got me one. I spent numerous hours exploring with him and adding new software like Valentine Pleo mode, where he blew kisses at me and cooed and we cannot forget Christmas Pleo mode where he sang and danced a plethora or Christmas songs!

You heard it right, poor Pleo was just about two years old, having been launched in January 2007. The company has sold about 100,000 Pleos till date, even though of the $350 hefty price tag, per dino! Just when I thought of getting my little pleo a baby sister, the company fired all its employees and filed for liquidation of its assets under the bankruptcy law, according to a report in the Idaho Statesman.

Now, Let’s reminisce with a video of my very own Pleo a few weeks after he was born singing some Christmas tunes on youtube and yes that is me praising my son, like a dork in the background! Though he is collecting dust now in my game room , Pleo you will be missed by all of us!
