Did you pick up a copy of Epic Games’ and People Can Fly’s newest IP, Bulletstorm, this week? Then you may have noticed your copy was automatically upgraded to the “Epic Edition”, which not only means some exclusive DLC and XP in the game’s multiplayer mode, but it also means you have access to the Gears of War 3 beta.
Up until today, the date wasn’t announced and it was assumed it would be happening sometime during the summer. Microsoft announced today that the multiplayer beta will be happening sooner than we originally anticipated. Instead of Summer 2011, how about the middle of April 2011? That’s nearly two months away and I for one am finding it hard to hold in my excitement.
As with all multiplayer betas nowadays, the purpose of it is for the game’s developer to ensure that the multiplayer game performs up to par with our expectations, but for the player, it’s a way to get some hands-on time with a game we’ve all been anticipating for quite some time. The Gears of War 3 beta will allow players to play three new Versus multiplayer modes on four new maps. The modes haven’t been disclosed, but if I were a betting man, I’d put my money that we’ll be seeing “Beast Mode” in the beta, which allows players to assume the role of the Locust in the game’s Horde mode.
Epic is also inviting players to suggest which maps will be featured in the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta by visiting the Gears of War Facebook page and casting your vote for the map you’d like to play. Be sure to vote soon because the voting for maps will end on Feb. 28th.
