If you thought we’d see the last of Kratos in God of War III, then you were most certainly mistaken as Sony announced today the continuation of the God of War story in God of War: Ghost of Sparta for the PSP.
The game takes place directly after the events of God of War III, focusing on Kratos’ rise to power as the God of War. Ready at Dawn Studios, who were responsible for Kratos’ other PSP adventure in God of War: Chains of Olympus, are back at the helm for Ghost of Sparta and they’re promising 25% more gameplay, a robust weapon system, new magical powers, weapons, more enemies on screen as well as a greater number of boss encounters.
“Excitement for the God of War franchise is at an all-time high and we’re thrilled to continue that momentum with God of War: Ghost of Sparta,” said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president, product marketing, SCEA. “This new adventure will showcase Kratos on PSP like never before in an experience that fans and newcomers can enjoy on the go, anytime, anywhere.”
No official release date has been given for God of War: Ghost of Sparta, but it’s said to be released later this year.
[Update: My apologies. It looks like I misread the press release. God of War: Ghost of Sparta takes place after the events of the original God of War game, not God of War III. So for now, I guess you can consider Kratos dead until we hear otherwise.]
