PlayStation Network Down, Cross-game chat coming

PSN Down

Beginning tonight, October 14th, around 11 PM PST or October 15th, around 2 PM EST, the PlayStation Network will be down for some much needed maintenance for several hours.  During this time, some users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store or account management, and may encounter some difficulty while signing in to PSN. Many are speculating PlayStation 3’s latest firmware will be released soon which will include cross-game chat which could be the reason for the down time.

“Naughty Dog Dev” ReklissAbandon wrote in response to player requests for enemy spectating in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves that PlayStation 3 cross-game chat might make that request unfair.

“I think they wanted people to have fun and ejoy the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies positions.” Posted by ReklissAbandon, a Naughty Dog Dev.

Keep an eye out here or at Sony’s twitter for network status uptime.
