The second expansion for hit Bethesda RPG Skyrim was announced today. The new DLC will be called Hearthfire, and will focus around building a home and starting a family.
The expansion will essentially add a property market to the game, with houses available in a variety of locales including rather exotic ones in Hjaalmarch, Falkreath and The Pale. Once a plot of land is purchased, you’ll be able to construct and customise a house to your liking. There are quite a few rooms that you can add, including armouries, alchemy towers, kitchens and trophy rooms.
It’s not just land and buildings that are included in the DLC. You’ll also see new ways to expand your relationships, including hiring a personal steward and adopting children. These new followers will grant you bonuses in combat and the like.
Of course once you’ve got a swanky pad occupied by a loving family, the nasty denizens of Skyri are going to try and take it from you by force. So count on a host of new missions related to protecting your home from kidnappers, bandits and annoying skeevers.
Some are calling it The Sims meets Skyrim, but honestly that sounds like a pretty cool idea. Have a look at the trailer below:
Interested? Hearthfire will be hitting Xbox Live next week (September 4th) for around £3.50, while PS3 and PC users will likely see the expansion a few weeks (or months) later.
