Poll: LittleBigPlanet, Will It Impact PS3 Sales?

LittleBigPlanet’s appearance in E3 was a huge success. Will ‘SackBoy’ help increase Sony PlayStation 3 console sales?

The little guy known simply as ‘SackBoy’ in Sony’s upcoming video game, LittleBigPlanet, has a lot riding on his burlap shoulders.  It seems Sony is putting all their faith in the little guy, and with an official release date there’s no turning back.  That means no more delays.  This also means that this is Sony’s last chance to capture new PS3 gamers.  The First Person shooters have already chosen what system they prefer killing on.  The MMORPG guys have decided that PC’s are for them.  Portable device people love the on the go advantage.  I feel that Sony’s last target audience is the first time console owners of the Nintendo Wiii.  Everyone knows that the Wii’s lifespan is short lived, as we previously discussed.  So I say, strike while the iron’s hot.  Publish a game that sells a cute little zipper-stomach doll, and use bright colors and a simple game title name.

The buzz surrounding this game is how customizable it is.  LittleBigPlanet or ‘LBP’ for short, is a puzzle platformer game that combines the ability to jump, move, and grab objects. Players can use their abilities to shape and develop the highly manipulatable environment to build custom spaces either individually, collaboratively, and/or competitively. Levels focus on co-operative, physics-based gameplay, and players can use mechanisms such as cogs and blocks to build anything from small level parts to large, complex worlds. The game will also allow opportunities for players to acquire new skills and tools.

After all the delays, do you think LBP will be a successful PS3 game?  Do you think it will help sell PS3’s to new gamers?

Personally this game may be enough to get me to buy a ps3. I’ve been psyched about it since I first saw a demo of it maybe two years ago.

i think it might, i own a ps3 since 2nd week out, if i did not have one i would have bought it for MGS4, but littlebigplanet: not sure. It looks like a fantastic game but i would not pay £40 for it!!!, maybe £30, £25.

it wont immediately cause most people who have a ps3 arent really into it

but this is one of my most anticipated games of this year right behind metal gear solid four and once those who do pick it up tell their friends about it it will no doubt help sales pick up quite a bit

Actually, I forgot to mention God of War 3 has a strong chance but who knows. These days exclusives are a thing of the past. LBP for sure will be exclusive!…right?

I think it will move some consoles, but not like Halo 3 did for the 360 or anything. GOW3 will be the console seller for the PS3

For sure it will help sell more PS3. Games Like LBP sell very well for a long time, but they don’t have the initial hype that games like Halo, GTA, or MSG have (the Wii has proved me wrong about this already, so I could be wrong about LBP). LBP I can see easily selling a couple of million over a year, but it won’t reach that number as quickly as the previous mentioned games did. I’m really hoping Sony pushes a large scale marketing campaign for LBP; I enjoy SackBoy.

Personally, the only way I’m going to own LBP is if my girlfriend buys it for herself like WiiFit…it’s just not the type of game I buy.

It’s probably gonna sell load of units. Look at the MGS4. bundle. They’re still flying out of the door. the MGS franchise has been very good to Sony and thats fine. The difference is with LBP that it’s totally new.

Lots of people have steered clear of MGS4 because it’s a game that you kind of need to be entrenched in and have followed the series(though it’s not essential). You need to be able to appreciate and resepect the long cut scenes and story driven aspects of the game(which have been the hallmark of the series), and many gamers aren’t in it for that. They want instant gratification.

It’ll be interesting to see just how popular user created content will be with the generic gamer. It’ll be a blast for people who have done things like design maps for Quake etc, but how about the average jo?

Either way it’s going sell PS3’s.

I only have a Wii right now, but I don’t use it often. LittleBigPlanet looks amazing and I think that I might have to get a PS3. It was either PS3 or 360 and I think LBP persuaded me.

  10. Will Snizek says:

I think most people don’t use their Wiis often. It’s a great system to have when you have a crowd over, but gaming by yourself a 360 or PS3 is the way to go.

I use my Wii maybe an hour a week unless I am reviewing a game for it.

Wii Music will wipe the floor with LBP. Mark my words.

@ sum1 are you nuts? LBP has the entire gaming industry looking at it!
