Bioshock 2

While it may seem that Bioshock 2’s multiplayer was quickly tacked on so that 2K Marin wouldn’t have to endure gamers’ gripes about another single-player only Bioshock game, it really delivers. In a time when multiplayer modes are often an afterthought, Bioshock 2’s multiplayer is a great addition to the game and truly is a worthwhile, stand-alone experience. 2K Marin really put extra effort into this, making it alone worth the price of admission.

Bioshock 2 Little Sister Review: BioShock 2

I must admit, when a BioShock sequel was announced I had my doubts. I thought “how can they take such an unbelievably beautiful design and masterfully written storyline and make it better? What can 2K do to one-up themselves with the city known to fans as ‘Rapture’?” Well, kiddies, I give you BioShock 2. Big Daddies and Little Sisters return, amongst new and old friends and foes, to welcome you back to the city below the Atlantic.

What made this game so amazing? Well let’s start with the fact that you are no longer just a man. You are a Big Daddy! How bad-ass is that? Known only as Subject Delta, and thought to be dead, you return and begin your search for the Little Sister that was bonded to you ten years earlier. This particular little sister is immensely important to Rapture as she is being bred to be a “Utopian” or “the People’s Daughter,” somewhat based on Fontaine’s creation. Her name is Eleanor Lamb, biological daughter of Dr. Sofia Lamb, who just so happens to be the games primary antagonist. DUN DUN DUN!!! Ten years ago, Sofia orchestrated the abduction of Eleanor. During the event, Delta was hypnotized and forced to kill himself by removing his helmet and shooting himself with a pistol. Sofia took control of Rapture and all that is within after Andrew Ryan was murdered.

Just a few more days and we’ll all be revisiting the underwater utopia that is Rapture.  Since the launch date is approaching quickly, 2K Games has released the official launch trailer for BioShock 2.

As with most launch trailers, it lacks gameplay footage.  What it doesn’t lack in is atmosphere and kick-ass moments.  There’s of course the Big Daddy we’ll all be playing as, a Little Sister, some Splicers, and of course, Big Sister.

If you weren’t pumped at the prospect of filling the shoes of a Big Daddy in BioShock 2, then please allow this 10 minute gameplay video to officially blow your mind!

In the latest video to come out of 2K Games, we not only get to see BioShock 2 in action, but we also learn a little bit about the Big Daddy we’ll all be playing the role of.  It seems this Big Daddy isn’t like the others.  This one of a kind Big Daddy can not only use Plasmids, but he is also a free thinker.  The gameplay of BioShock 2 will change a bit as well.  In the original BioShock, you had to be wary of enemy splicers as fighting them head on could result in an early grave.  Since you’re the Big Daddy, you are more powerful than the splicers, so they will regularly group up to try to take you down.

There are a couple of more new gamplay elements introduced in this video.  Why should I spoil all the fun? Put your phone on vibrate, your IM client on away, and enjoy 10 minutes of BioShock 2 gameplay footage.

The game will be experience based (similar to that of the recent Call of Duty entires & Gears of War 2).  Players will unlock new weapons, Plasmids, and Tonics, which can be combined to create hundreds of different character combinations.  The multiplayer portion of BioShock 2 will be handled by Digital Extremes, who have worked on the Unreal franchise, the PS3 version of BioShock 3, and Dark Sector.  Let’s all pray they don’t make the multiplayer as bad as Dark Sector’s.
