Hey, you! Have you been on the fence on buying Darksiders, even though it’s currently sitting pretty with an average review score of 82?  Well, you’re in luck as THQ has announced they’ll be offering a demo of Darksiders for both the PS3 & Xbox 360 next week.

The Darksiders demo will feature approx. 90 minutes of gameplay from the first dungeon in the game, the Twilight Cathedral.  Expect a lot of hacking-n-slashing, puzzle solving, and War speaking in a mono tone, grumbly voice.  David Adams, GM of Vigil Games, had the following to say in regards to offering this 90 minute taste of Darksiders.

“We are really pumped to be bringing a playable demo for Darksiders to Xbox 360 and PlayStation3. We really wanted to give gamers a true idea of the variety of gameplay that the game offers and so rather than just making a standard 20-minute demo version of the first few levels, we decided to give away this massive level and reveal the true essence of the game.”

So now you have no reason to NOT at least try Darksiders.  It’s got everything a gamer wants out of a game.  Puzzles, big swords, and cybernetic angels that shoot laser cannons.

We saw.  We played.  We were impressed.  Very impressed!  I can tell you right now, God of War III will be a MUST HAVE game in March 2010.  Kratos as we know him is back, with the scars to prove it running down his stomach.  The opening menu shows off Kratos in fantastic graphics.  Starting the story mode is very graphically satisfying.  I’ve always loved the God of War series for getting right to it.  No explanation, no reason, just straight up killing from the get go and God of War III is no different.  You’re not given any story line nor have any idea what your main objective is.  Except to kill those who are put in your way.

The button sequence has changed a slight bit, but easier for those who haven’t memorized the button locations yet.  For those who’ve played God of War 1 or 2, you were given button times events which would allow Kratos to perform special attacks on bosses.  Now the buttons are located on the left (square), right (circle), top (triangle) and bottom (X) of your screen.  When your attacking the boss, press those corresponding buttons to perform critical attacks.

You begin the demo with two of your four weapons already equipped.  The chaos blades is your primary weapon and the …. is the weapon you equip to break your opponents block and is much stronger.  The dimension in GOW3 in tremendous.  Pay attention to the back and foreground scenery or you’ll miss out on some great action.  At one point, you mount a cyclops and attack him which causes him to attack the smaller enemies closer to the ground in light attacks (swings his club) or stronger attacks (falls ontop of them).

The Fire Titan is swatting away Helios, and your mission is to knock him off course with an arrow courtesy of a slingshot.  Helios is thrown off his chariot, caught by the Fire Titan and thrown across the ruins.  For fans of free roam, you’ll be a bit disappointed since GOW3 is mainly camera driven.  Which means, what the developers want you to see is your view.  This is mainly due to the R3 button being used as a directional dodge stick.

As you fly your way through openings in the ceiling, you’ll have large rocks and other objects on fire hurling towards you.  The Demo wraps up by showing the Fire Titan in the distance as Kratos approaches him.  In 720p and 5.1 Surround Sound you’ll see and hear the title screen of God of War III to which I applauded like I was at E3 seeing this for the first time.  Very Geeky.

A no doubter for Game of The Year award for 2010, I can tell you that God of War III will be an epic conclusion to the best series on the PlayStation platform.  We’ll be replaying this until the God of War Collection is released Nov 17.  Until then, stay posted here for more GOW3 news!

Ok PerezStart.com followers.  There’s good news and bad news.  Good news is there’s a God of War 3 Demo that we have been playing and loving with our official impressions coming Monday.  Bad news is we couldn’t get a Demo code for you guys… yet (we’ll try).  So make sure you come back Monday since we’ll have a full write-up on the Demo, with screens for viewing.  For now, enjoy these screens featuring Kratos in these never before seen demo screenshots of everyone’s favorite Titan killer, Kratos!

The amazing graphics can easily be seen on these screenshots with the blood from the Cyclops’ eye above sprayed all over Kratos.  The gore doesn’t stop here.  Kratos is also involved with another enemy who “disturbs the gods”.

Here’s the plot for God of War III, so if you’re not into spoilers just check out the screenshots below.

God of War III takes place right after the events of God of War II, with Kratos upon Gaia’s back eager to exact vengeance on the gods and make them suffer. As seen in the trailers, the whereabouts of the Blade of Olympus is unknown, even though Kratos had been wielding the blade at the end of God of War II. Little information has been released on the battle between the Gods and Titans that will explain the end of Greek mythology.[10] A more recent screenshot shows Helios on his knees with a bloodied face, Kratos is also in the picture grasping the god’s head, about to tear it off with his bare hands.[11] A game demo released at E3 2009 shows Kratos, with assistance from Perses, bringing down Helios and his chariot and then ripping off the god’s head.

Nathan Drake is back in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and it’s about time too! I was getting worried that they killed him off due to contract negotiations and filled his role in with Val Kilmer or Steve Buschemi.  Nathan is the modern version Indiana Jones.  You know, like Indy, he’s after some rare artifact traveling with his sidekick and female partners while trying to keep the bad guys from getting the goods.  This time, he’s after an important artifact that will lead him along with Sully and crew to find information pertaining to Marco Polo’s fleet.  Yeah, his old time backstabber friend Sully is back as well, but no sign of Elena… for now.  It’s O.K. his new “hug hug, kiss kiss” is an Australian dame named Chloe.  Will Uncharted 2 become our 2nd only perfectly scored review?  We’ll break it down.

Camera angles are great. Using the R3 stick, you can navigate the camera to look around and not have it drift back on Drake. Free roam camera angles show off Naughty Dog’s hard work into their crisp 1080p detailed graphics. Noticing every hair follicle on Drake’s face was disturbingly accurate and attention to detail is a huge factor for my reviews.   The opening scene really tests players of Uncharted 1 with your gameplay memory. Fortunately, Drake’s Fortune was so great and memorable you’ll quickly jump into the game controls instantly. For those who are new, the onscreen guide will walk you throw during your first mission. Not to spoil it but Drake always seems to find himself in a train wreck of problems.  There’s a scene where you’re running towards the screen and away from an armored vehicle at the same time while trying to shoot at it. One of the first “coming at you” approaches I’ve seen in a while.  Let’s say it felt intense. Maybe God of War did it too, but not THIS good!

Attention to Detail. In one of the earlier missions I tested out the scenery and gameplay by pushing Uncharted 2 within more than normal gameplay.  And what I discovered is amazing detail.  For example, I took Drake on a scenic route to explore the space around me.  I immediately noticed snow tracks visible after Drake walks and best of all, after minutes of walking around my snow tracks were still there.  The power of the Blu-ray disc and the amount of memory Uncharted 2 holds is amazing.  With this minor but valuable aspect of the game we’ve turned the corner of next-generation gaming.  Try to walk past some bushes in the Jungle, you’ll notice all the leaves move independently. It’s odd to say but you’ll notice the great amount of creative thinking that went into the game upon finishing the first level.

Cutscenes = Gameplay. The gameplay graphics are amazingly the same great graphics that the cutscenes were made from.  The lighting, textures and depth of scenery bundled together to make Uncharted 2’s seamless transfer from cutscene to gameplay more realistic.  At one point, I put the controller down to watch the scene between Drake and Harry unfold only to find that the dialogue had ended and I had to begin the objective asked of me.  The jungles’ waterfalls and rivers that run through it illustrates a sheen only found in real life.  I’ve always thought the original Uncharted’s water scenery was spectacular but somehow Naughty Dog outdid themselves.

Twitter inside. For those who aren’t following us, Get on It!  @PerezStart.  One of the most original Uncharted 2 features I discovered within “Options” was the ability to update your twitter status with various Uncharted 2 events.  When earning trophies, finishing a chapter etc. your twitter account will keep those who follow your gaming progress updated.  Funny, I couldn’t get my account to update.  For PS3 trophy whores, you’ll want to turn on all the events to annoy, err show off your accomplishments. pfft

Only one way to hunt, Fighting! The fighting mechanics this time around have gotten much cleaner.  During combat you attack with the square button for melee attacks and triangle to counter an enemies grapple.  The slight slowdown during knockout blows gives you a better look at the action up close.  Great touch!  Stealth fighting has also received a makeover.  When your behind the enemy without being seen or heard, press square for a fatal blow.  Not a fan of stealth fighting aka Metal Gear Solid?  Then unleash your weapons and come out shooting with items that include handguns, AK-47’s and grenades to name a few. For the defensive fighter you’ll enjoy the Police Riot shield. Uncharted already utilities the effectiveness of taking cover (pressing the O button) behind walls and statues. But with the Riot shield you can take cover and move toward your opponent while waiting for them to reload so you can take a shot at them.

Multiplayer mode thanks to Demo. I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical for Uncharted 2’s multiplayer mode.  I’m a Call of Duty FPS fan, so it just didn’t seem right to fight against others in Team Death match modes or Capture the Treasure but I was dead wrong.  Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Beta showed off how great the engine was for smooth combat scenes.  The 3rd person view and easy-to-manuever controls are nearly identical for fans of COD, so you’ll quickly master them.  Naughty Dog has put a lot work into their Multiplayer and with masses of players still going at the demo at the time of this review, I expect it only to continue.  You can play against up to 10 players in a 5 vs 5 format along with 3 player co-op.

Climbing and hanging around. If you’ve played Uncharted 1 you’ll understand most of the game involves jumping from ledge to ledge.  If you haven’t played it, the onscreen instructions will guide you through.  But know the free climbing is a lot of fun.  You’ll swing from branches, light poles etc. and with proper timing swing your way to the next.  I found the camera angles did a decent job of keeping the game honest by not panning it to the next obvious jump.  Unlike Uncharted 1 did.

Final Thought: When people talk about Next-Gen gaming simply put Uncharted 2: Among Thieves should be the answer. Blu-ray finally shows us what the PlayStations 3 processor can hold, and it can hold a whole lot. Snow tracks… remember? (read above). The voice acting, gameplay, fighting mechanics and detailed graphics make this an instant “Game of The Year” candidate. The multiplayer is solid and incorporating stealth was a smart choice. If you didn’t read our review, then take this last line as your lazy reading synopsis. Go out and Buy This Game Now!  (If this game isn’t a 10 nothing is)

The demo weighs in at around 1.5 GB and the demo is said to give a taste of the FreeFlow combat system as well as Batman’s stealth capabilities.  A special trailer for the demo was released as well, which you can take a peek at after the break.

The Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta came and went, but if you missed out on getting a code from the numerous sources online (including us), then you’ll be delighted to know Naughty Dog is planning on giving PS3 owners another chance at getting in on the Uncharted 2 goodness by way of a multiplayer demo.

During a live-chat on the Official Playstation Blog, Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells had the following to say when asked if there will be a demo before the release of Uncharted 2 :

Yes, we’re going to have another multiplayer demo before the game hits shelves.   The exact timing isn’t finalized yet, but it should be available to an even wider group this time, so if you missed the last one I don’t think you’ll have any problem getting in this one.

By wider group, I’m hoping he means it’ll be downloadable via the PSN to anyone and not have us purchase another game or have to jump through too many hoops in order to get in on the multiplayer demo.  Allowing the multiplayer demo to be downloaded as easily as possible will only further improve sales for the title.

We spoke about Lost Planet 2 a couple of times on PerezStart, and we are really excited about this next bit of news.  It seems that the Lost Planet 2 demo will be ‘coming soon’ according to the game’s producer, Jun Takeuchi.  During Famitsu’s “Midnight Live 360″, Takeuchi-san disclosed that the demo journalists played during E3 would be released to the masses.

The Red Faction: Guerrilla multiplayer demo has officially gone live on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.  The demo weighs in at approx. 600mb and allows you to play the Damage Control gametype where you and your teammates need to take control of certain points of the map by destroying the enemy’s structure and building your faction’s structure.

The demo’s XP system has also been tweaked to allow players to fully level up with an hour or so of gameplay.  The only downside is that since this is a demo, the XP you accumulate will not be saved, so think twice if you really want to log off because your loved one might be having a seizure in the kitchen.  Just stick a cookie in his/her mouth and they should be fine.
