User’s of Facebook will be able to integrate their PSN ID with their Facebook account. With this news, you’ll be able to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. So those Xbox 360 isn’t the only social networking console out there now, the Twitter update coming to the new Fall update is the PS3 Facebook’s competition.
Yes, beginning at 8:00 AM PT (11:00 AM ET) today the PSN will be down for maintenance for four hours. You want to know why too? Jeez, ok in lieu of the new 3.0 Firmware update, Sony will be preparing it’s network for the upgrade. But there’s somewhat of good news that can come out of this. If you’re logged in before-hand you will not be kicked off PSN and will continue to play online. For those attempting to join online after 8 AM PT (11 AM ET), sorry… you won’t be able to play online games, download from store or anything else that requires you to login.
During Sony’s press conference at Gamescon in Germany, they revealed what we could be looking forward to when firmware 3.0 is released later this year.
Among some of the updates were the addition of the “What’s New” section, which is replacing the Information Board. Also worth noting is the addition of animated XMB themes, which allow users to spice up their Playstation 3 with some animated graphics.

It’s been pretty quiet lately with the lack of BIG PlayStation 3 firmware news. And right when you think there’s nothing new arriving, we get wind of this rumor. And since most rumors tend to be true, I’ve decided to list the upcoming list of PS3 Firmware 2.7.
Friends List:
- Voice Messaging is now available as an alternative to text after selecting a user on the friends list. Voice message recordings are capped at 30 seconds.
- Home Integration: Saved Playstation Home avatar photos can be selected as photo ID for Gamer Card/Friends List.
- Trophy number and Gamer Level are listed under Friend names for quick reference.
Gamer Card & Trophies:
- Gamer Card layout has been changed to more closely resemble the Playstation Store aesthetic.
- Past Trophy information can be viewed in detail by selecting “Recent Trophy History” option.
- Newly aquired trophies auto-sync in the background
- Server infrastructure for Trophies has been optimized. Resulting in faster retrieval time for Gamer Card and Trophy information.
