I was going to start this review with a catchy Ghostbusters line; Who you gonna review… or I ain’t afraid of these games… maybe Mother Pussbucket… something along those lines. But alas, I did it anyway and crossed the streams. I’m reviewing Ghostbusters The Video Game with high expectations based off my love of the movie and of previous Ghostbusters games including the classic Atari 2600 . Back in 2006 a developer named Zootfly first released a gameplay video showing off the work in progress. Sony’s “denial to continue the game” postponed the project but sparked interest in many gamers and developers to revive the title. In the end, Atari was granted to publish the title with work from Terminal Reality completing the development. Here we are 3 years later in 2009 and the game has been developed for pretty much every gaming system; XBox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, DS, PC and PSP.
Lending the voices. Most games made from movies stick an actor that sounds “somewhat” like the real thing. This game went over that plateau and incorporated each of the actors who portrayed the Ghostbusters in the films, Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz), Harold Ramis (Egon Spengler), Bill Murray (Peter Venkman), Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore) and Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz). While it was difficult to reproduce the humor from the movie the game did a decent job at trying to make you laugh.
It’s been a while since we last treat you guys with some Ghostbusters: The Video Game screenshots. In case you forgot, it will be released next month on June 16th. While the screenshots below are from the PS3 version, we plan to review the Wii version as well as the Xbox 360 game. We’ve been covering the game in past months and feel June will be a bigger month for coverage (post E3 of course).

Hi! Mrjuandrful here, and do I have a trailer for YOU! — ok, I’ve been watching Pitchmen on Discovery Channel DVR. Anywho, check out this latest Ghostbusters The Video Game cinematic trailer. While I’m still trying to figure out what exactly the Gozer is (Slimer’s over rated), I can tell you I have goosebumps as I’m writing this post. (hmmf, A/C was on) The Museum Police recreate an episode of Ghost Hunters, thanks to the walkie-talkie ghost history. Is Museum Police a ranking?
Alyssa Milano will be the female star in the upcoming Ghostbusters: The Video Game by Atari. The already star studded cast, will add another angle which it was missing, a female actress mind you. Alyssa Milano will fill the role of Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn, who is the curator of “World of Gozer” at the Natural History Museum. We got some screens below for ya.
I can see myself spending wads of cash on splitreason.com it is good for the economy yes but bad for my wallet! Out of all of their shirts on their site I have to say this is my favorite thus far! It is a mashup of Mario and Ghostbusters obviously. I will buy it and wear it as I play my Ghosbusters Ds game coming out in June. I think they should make a new movie too! What do you guys think? This kawaii shirt goes for just $18.95 and is a must get for me!
Developer Red Fly Studio has done a great job with these NEW Ghostbusters: The Video Game Screens on the Wii. We already know the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will feature next-gen graphics and I’m glad the Wii did not try to emulate that. The Wii is a video game system, that is an entertainment console. It’s not meant to blow you away, and these Ghostbusters screens do the perfect job. They sort of remind me of Monkey Island esque.
It seems like I’m loving Ghostbusters: The Video Game a little too much. But I find it very interesting how this game’s progression has lead them to a very high anticipated release. Here’s the brief history and trailer to follow:
2006 – Game Developer Zootfly starts game
2007 – Sierra took early videos of Zootfly to Sony to discuss their own version on a Ghostbusters game
2008 -
Activision Blizzard announced the game would not be released. Sierra Commented that game would be canceled.
Infogrames announced that Atari would be releasing the game with a release date of June 16th 2009 for US and June 19th in Europe. Read more…
