I recently stumbled onto this Japanese beauty and she is way more than just a looker! At 32 years old, Yui Horie has accomplished so much. Not only is she a famous J-Pop singer, but a voice actress in a lot of animes. Some of which I can mention off the top of my head: Kanon (playing Ayu Tsukimiya), Love Hina (playing Naru Narusegawa) and the more recent Toradora! (as Minori Kushieda).
She is also the singer for the second opening (Silky Heart) and the first ending (Vanilla Salt) songs. She has voiced so many characters that there are too many to list, but Wikipedia has the full list. She has a very sweet voice and has been in so many of our beloved animes that I had to show her some love! Check out some of her music videos after the break!
This past Saturday and Sunday the Sakura Matsuri Festival was held at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in Brooklyn, NY. For those that do not know The Sakura Matsuri Festival is a festival paying respects to the Sakura (cherry blossom trees) that are of huge importance and staple of Japan. They are quite beautiful to look at and before this past Saturday the only time I had ever seen one visually was in anime and Japanese movies. Before knowing the festival existed I believed that my only chance was to visit Japan itself.
I learned about the festival through several of my many meetup groups on meetup.com. If you have not joined, I seriously suggest you should, it is a website filled with people like you and I who have an interest or hobby, who then in turn create meetup and or clubs searching for people of the same hobbies, to eventually “meetup”. I know what you are saying who cares about the Sakura Matsuri Festival , all you went there was to look at some trees, that’s whack son! This is where you are wrong because not only where these gorgeous trees in every nook and cranny of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden but there were several Japanese related events and activities such as Taiko Drumming, J-Pop singers, Cosplay shoots, Samurai Sword Fighting, comedians and so much more.
Did you know that we can have a little slice of Japan right under our noses? That is if you live close to the Brooklyn Area of course. Every year the Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival is held in Brooklyn at the Botanical Gardens and it is 2 days filled of Japanese appreciation and fun. There will be concerts, sword fighting shows, drum shows, cosplay photo shoots and film screenings! Even J-Pop sensations Minami Kizuki and Ai Kawashima will be there! The tickets go for $12 for adults, $6 for children and above and free for kids under 12! Sakura fun for the whole family that is not to pricey to boot! I am in, who is with me? More information on the event below and the full schedule of events can be found here
