For those of us that still enjoy the NES classics, here’s one that’s 22 years old and still holds true. In an interview with then developer, Makato Wada he was able to spill the beans on a tip in the original Punch-Out!! many fans wish they knew.
With the new Punch-Out!! released this week (Nintendo Ads on sides, Thanks!), let’s not forget about the true classic title, Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! In the video, some dorks show off their engineering degrees.
You see, this is the reason why a great idea can turn out to be so pathetic that I’d rather someone tell me it then show me it. When I first stumbled onto this video, I thought “Wow, it would be cool to really punch a dummy that will re-create your Punch-Out!! moves”. Then I saw this video and it completely ruined that possibility of me creating one or even trying this one that was made for the video. And losing to Glass Joe just tops the cake!!!
This just in! Nintendo has released some new multi-player screen shots for the Wii version of Punch-Out!! scheduled to come out this May. I don’t know about you but just seeing these screen shots brings me back to my childhood days. My only question is, where’s Mike?
The time is here, and the heavyweight boxers have been announced for EA’s upcoming Fight Night Round 4 and perezstart.com has the screenshots worth checking out below. Among the top Heavyweight fighters of all time, EA’s decision on selecting these guys is being well reserved, overall. While FNR4 strategically left off one boxer who they will announce at a later date, the Heavyweight Roster seems legit. Mike Tyson heads the class in this Roster of Hall of Fame boxers. Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Eddie Chambers, Lennox Lewis and James Toney finish off the list in MY ranking order of Best boxer in his prime! Mike Tyson’s final years were a disappointment but when he was on top, he was unstoppable. I just hope they leave off Riddick Bowe in this game… Tyson never should have changed trainers!!!
Fight Night Round 4 roster is shaping up. Watching this video reminds me of the movie “Rocky Balboa” when EA Sports setup the match of the century with Mason “The Line” Dixon (played by Antonio Tarver) vs Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). Although it was a movie, it does bring up controversy in the boxing world. I’d love to see Rocky Marciano step in the ring with Mike Tyson. In this video we see heavy hands exchanged and my prediction is that “Iron” Mike Tyson would knock out Muhammad Ali, when both fighters were at their bests. Watching this video, who do you think wins?
Making his first video game appearance on an EA sports video game, Mike Tyson will be one of the two fighters on the new cover of Fight Night Round 4. Muhammad Ali will join Tyson on this highly anticipated release. Mike Tyson had this to say:
“I’m honored to be on the cover of Fight Night Round 4 with Ali. He was a special champ, and I have the highest respect for him as a person and a fighter” said Tyson. “People always ask me if I think I would have beaten Ali if I had the chance to fight him when we were both in our prime. Now you can figure it out for yourselves. Fight Night puts you right in that ring and gives you the gloves to settle the score.”
PerezStart Fact – Capcom’s US Street Fighter Balrog, was based off Mike Tyson.
- US Balrog is M. Bison in Japan
- US Vega is Balrog in Japan
- US M. Bison is Vega in Japan
The African-American boxer was named M. Bison in Japan (with the “M” being an initial for “Mike”), since he was designed after boxer Mike Tyson. When Street Fighter II was released overseas, the names of the bosses were rotated, fearing that the character of “M. Bison” resembled Mike Tyson to the point of likeness infringement, but also because Capcom USA’s marketing team believed that “Vega” was a “weak-sounding name” for the game’s final opponent.
For those of you wondering if Wii Punchout!! will ONLY have Wii motion controls, take a breather cause the classic controls WILL be featured. When Wii Punchout!! was first announced I know many Punchout!! fans were worried that the controls they were raised on would be left off and forced to play with the “Wii Sports Boxing” control system instead. Kotaku commented: Nintendo in a Press release today announced two juicy bits of news.
1. Classic NES Controls would accompany the already announced Wii motion sensor controls
According to Nintendo of America’s press site, the alternate control scheme has the same button layout as the NES controller, using the D-pad to dodge, with the 1 and 2 buttons used to throw punches. Big deal? Maybe we’re just excited for the upcoming blister possibilities. So much better than perspiring while gaming.
