Review: God of War III, Revenge of the Spartan

March 19th, 2010 mrjuandrful 2 comments

God of War III

The game many are calling “Epic” is finally here.  God of War III is the last piece to the trilogy featuring ex-Spartan Kratos against… everyone else.  Greek Gods and Titans will have to face his Blades of Exile bounded by chains to his arms and dripping with blood.  The opening cinematics  preview flashbacks of Kratos’ previous adventures in God of War I and II.  The suffering he’s gone through, the chaos he has caused but most importantly the revenge he seeks is what keeps this warrior alive.  Given the name Ghost of Sparta and eventually dethroning Ares as the new God of War has not been a peaceful journey for Kratos.  You’ll battle Titans, go face to face with Greek Gods with plenty of blood to go around.  God of War III, developed by Santa Monica Studios concludes the trilogy with our hero Kratos, the new God of War, seeking what he fights for most, vengeance!  Will he (and Santa Monica Studios) earn the term, Epic?

Sony’s ‘MAG’ 256-player FPS hits store shelves Jan. 26

January 25th, 2010 mrjuandrful No comments

M.A.G.

MAG. Massive Action Game will be a new exclusive First Person Shooter making it’s way to the PS3 tomorrow. Why will it be “different”? Up to 256 online players will be able to fight each other in groups on one map. Testing the Beta, I can tell you the game has potential to compete in the FPS genre.

“The game will utilize a new server architecture to support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into 8-player squads, with 4 squads forming a platoon, and 4 platoons forming a company. Each squad will be led by a player who has advanced through the game’s ranking system. Character statistics and development will also increase with frequent gameplay. The players most advanced in rank will be able to either direct the battle or participate directly in combat.

Basic battles will take place within ongoing, faction-based campaigns to encourage the player to actively play. The game’s E3 unveiling trailer featured large landscapes, tactics such as air strikes and parachuting, and a variety of vehicles, from tanks and APCs to airplanes.

Players will be able to customize the face, voice, and armor of their characters, as well as what weapons and kit they carry into battle.”

MAG 600x337 Sonys MAG 256 player FPS hits store shelves Jan. 26

Sony’s Media Manager of SCEA, Jeff Rubenstein, answers “Why the lack of MAG reviews?”  His answer makes sense:

“Reviews can’t be written until the game is actually out. I mean, you can’t pass pre-release judgment on a game whose major, industry-leading feature (256 players in a single battle) can’t be tested until release day.”

MAG will be released in North America on January 26th.

God of War Collection Goes Gold, Coming November 17th

October 27th, 2009 mrjuandrful No comments

God of War Collection

Gone Gold are the two best words a gamer can hear.  What it means.  In simple terms (are there harder terms) it’s been finalized and the stamp (gold) is now turned to mass produce the finished product.  The God of War Collection will hit store shelves officially on November 17th.  For those who contemplated on “why” to get the GOW: Collection if you have the PS2 versions, can I say “PS3 Trophies”!  Or maybe 720p Blood slashing Kratos cut-scenes.  Or finally the PS3 Demo for the upcoming title God of War III.

MAG Public Beta Update 1.30, Kick/Vote Player Enabled

October 22nd, 2009 mrjuandrful No comments

Ban Hammer

MAG = Massive Action Game.  By far the largest playing field of 256 players on one map.  That’s a lot of potato’s peeled.  Unfortunately, MAG has decided to enabled the feature to “vote/kick player” .  While I personally believe this will abused by players, developers needed some sort of ban hammer.  For those lucky enough to get a MAG PSN voucher, you’ll be pleased to know that there will be a massive update today.  The update (2681.67 MB) includes over 8,000 fixes and you can begin downloading them now.  The MAG Public Beta server will open at 10 AM PDT (1PM EDT).

Review: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Go Figure

Uncharted 2 Review

Nathan Drake is back in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and it’s about time too! I was getting worried that they killed him off due to contract negotiations and filled his role in with Val Kilmer or Steve Buschemi.  Nathan is the modern version Indiana Jones.  You know, like Indy, he’s after some rare artifact traveling with his sidekick and female partners while trying to keep the bad guys from getting the goods.  This time, he’s after an important artifact that will lead him along with Sully and crew to find information pertaining to Marco Polo’s fleet.  Yeah, his old time backstabber friend Sully is back as well, but no sign of Elena… for now.  It’s O.K. his new “hug hug, kiss kiss” is an Australian dame named Chloe.  Will Uncharted 2 become our 2nd only perfectly scored review?  We’ll break it down.

PS3/PSN Review: SIREN: Blood Curse, you’ll crap Shibito

sirennt image 10 600x337 PS3/PSN Review: SIREN: Blood Curse, youll crap Shibito

So, for those of you looking for a great horror game, SIREN: Blood Curse literally scared the crap of of us. The games’ eerie sounds and gritty views make this our ‘Horror Game for 2008′.

If you don’t mind downloading 12 separate episodes (9 gb total), and painfully installing each episode while trying to figure out why Sony couldn’t make it an easier process, SIREN:Blood Curse is for you! In all honesty, I feel this is the only con SIREN has, although the idea of having the game installed and ALWAYS ready to go is something I got VERY comfortable with. I mean, getting up to put a game disc in, is soo 2007.

Cole Goes Through A “Power Trip” In Latest inFamous Trailer

April 29th, 2009 Daniel Perez No comments

infamous screen Cole Goes Through A Power Trip In Latest inFamous Trailer

With inFamous being released in less than a month, Sony has released a new trailer for the game in order to remind us that we indeed need this game.

The trailer shows Cole performing a number of moves to move around the world or to dispose of an enemy or two.  If you watch the trailer closely, you’ll notice that the movements Cole is making from scene to scene are linking together.  Whoever put this trailer together needs to get some kind of recognition.

Needless to say, between Cole’s electrical powers and the ever changing environment, this is going to be a game PS3 owners need to experience.

Check out the video after the break

inFamous Arrives Earlier Than Expected, May 26th

11 inFamous Arrives Earlier Than Expected, May 26th

Set for a original launch date for June, news broke this morning on the PS Blog that inFamous will make it’s highly anticipated debut of May 26th. While this news is not all that shocking, because the title was originally pushed back to begin with, what IS surprising was a confirmed date BEFORE their originally annouunced date.

It seems most publishers grasp onto a date as the very last chance to work out all the bugs.  While May 26th is the official US release date, the game must be in production way before that and shipped to retailers.  Why bump it up a month?  Maybe it’s been in “bug testing” mode this entire year (2009).  Nevertheless, Sucker Punch has promised to blow all of us away with inFamous.  The PSN trailers alone have done just that thus far.  And with the demo hitting the PS store on May 21st, only time will tell.
