The PS3 firmware update (v2.60) is designed primarily to enhance the system’s media capabilities. The key feature is a new Photo Gallery application, which delivers a suite of tools for sorting through and displaying your digital photo collection. Digital pictures can be organized in groups according to various criteria, including the camera used to take the photos, the event date and time, colors in the photos, as well as the number, ages, or facial expressions of the people pictured. You can also create slideshows set to music and build photo playlists with an easy-to-use interface. The Photo Gallery application will need to be installed separately from the XMB after you update your PS3’s firmware. To install the Photo Gallery application, go to the Photo section on the XMB, select Photo Gallery and press the X button.

The 2.60 update also includes:

• Guest access to PlayStation Store – This enables non-PlayStation Network members to browse through the storefront to check out the latest games, demos, videos, etc.
• DivX 3.11 support – Videos in this format can now be played on PS3.

1. In the game, go to the “Multiplayer” Menu

5. Write down your unique web stats code and visit CallofDuty.com
6. Log into your account
   If you don’t have an account you can register here.
7. Once you’ve logged in, click “My Account”
8. Click on the “Link Account” tab
9. Select your Platform
10. Enter your Gamer ID (Gamertag or PSN ID)
11. Enter your web stats code from step #5
12. Go to your profile page and select “COD: WW DOSSIER”

In celebration of the outstanding online success of Call of Duty: World at War, Activision is pleased to present the fan community with a couple freebies this weekend. You’ll now be able to play Nazi Zombies online right away without completing the Solo campaign. Also, this upcoming weekend is a Double-XP MP weekend. Gamers will be eligible for Double-XP starting Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 10:00AM PST.

PlayStation 3 Demos are great.  Heck, they saved me from purchasing some iffey’s and helped me decide which game is worth picking up.  One problem with demos… they take up too much space on my 60gb PS3!  I’ve been very careful over the past 3 months, deleting old demos I’ve liked but had to make room for new ones.  With the price of hard drives dropping, this decision is a no brainer.  Demos and now some newer games will require me to expand my PS3 storage.  (Soul Calibur IV offers better load times if you install it on your PS3).

According to Jack Tretton, Chief Executive of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, he anticipates sales of the PS3 to reach a previously announced target of 10 million units by the end of the year, in March 2009.

“We are in good shape for that number worldwide,” he said in an interview. “We are tracking at 100 percent up over last year … about 30 percent ahead of where we should be. So sales could slow down and we will still hit our number.”

Tretton said sales could be affected by products shortages, which he anticipated would be “not drastic.”

“I’d say we are able to meet somewhere between 80-90 percent demand, based on how things are trending,” he said.

Sales of the PSP, a $170 handheld device that plays games, movies and can surf the Internet, are 20-30 percent ahead of plan and are well-placed to meet the Japanese company’s target of 15 million units sold.

Sony dominated the global video game industry for a decade starting in the mid-1990s, but sales of the PS3 have lagged behind Nintendo Co Ltd’s Wii console. It now has to come to grips with a recent price cut for Microsoft Corp’s Xbox 360, its other main rival.
