Darksiders Demo Announcement 90 Minute Darksiders Demo Releasing on Feb 25th

Hey, you! Have you been on the fence on buying Darksiders, even though it’s currently sitting pretty with an average review score of 82?  Well, you’re in luck as THQ has announced they’ll be offering a demo of Darksiders for both the PS3 & Xbox 360 next week.

The Darksiders demo will feature approx. 90 minutes of gameplay from the first dungeon in the game, the Twilight Cathedral.  Expect a lot of hacking-n-slashing, puzzle solving, and War speaking in a mono tone, grumbly voice.  David Adams, GM of Vigil Games, had the following to say in regards to offering this 90 minute taste of Darksiders.

“We are really pumped to be bringing a playable demo for Darksiders to Xbox 360 and PlayStation3. We really wanted to give gamers a true idea of the variety of gameplay that the game offers and so rather than just making a standard 20-minute demo version of the first few levels, we decided to give away this massive level and reveal the true essence of the game.”

So now you have no reason to NOT at least try Darksiders.  It’s got everything a gamer wants out of a game.  Puzzles, big swords, and cybernetic angels that shoot laser cannons.

red faction guerrilla review Review: Red Faction: Guerrilla

Ever since Arnold Schwarzenegger journeyed to Mars in Total Recall, I’ve always been trying to ‘get my ass to Mars’. One of the main reasons was in order to hit on the chick with the 3 knockers, but the other one was to explore the Martian landscape and see what the world has to offer.

Red Faction: Guerrilla allows me to live life on the red planet, but will life there be a peacful one or one full of death and destruction?

Volition and THQ want to remind us that their upcoming title, Red Faction: Guerrilla, has more than just a cool sounding name.  In this latest trailer, they focus on some guerrilla tactics that you could perform in the game.

As the video points out, a guerrilla soldier is someone who fights with unconventional means.  In Red Faction: Guerrilla, this is the only way you can fight as the odds are strongly against you.

Red Faction: Guerilla ‘Tools Of Destruction’ Videos

April 14th, 2009 Daniel Perez No comments

PerezStart familia, meet Red Faction: Guerilla.  Red Faction: Guerilla, this here is the PerezStart familia.

Now that we got the pleasantries out of the way, let’s get down to business.  I mentioned Red Faction: Guerilla a couple of weeks ago with their Ostrich Hammer video, but I don’t feel that article gave a very good impression on what the game is about.  Enter these videos that highlight Red Faction: Guerilla’s ‘Tools of Destruction’.

I was lucky enough to experience this game at both E3 ‘08, as well as last summer’s Multiplayer Beta and I can safely say that this game is going to be AMAZING!  Also, please make sure to note that anything and everything in the environment is fully destructible. Nothing is more entertaining than taking a Heavy Walker across a bridge, only to figure out the hard way that Heavy Walkers are too heavy to go across a bridge, which causes you to crumble through it to the ground below.

Be sure to check after the break to see 3 more videos showcasing more nasty tools you can use.

Red Faction: Guerilla’s Deadliest Tool — The Ostrich Hammer!

April 2nd, 2009 Daniel Perez 1 comment

In their attempt at an April Fool’s prank yesterday, Volition might have very well created the greatest weapon in video game history!

According to the video, it all started when Producer Kevin White, while trying to download some legal MP3s accidentally uploaded screenshots of Red Faction: Guerilla to the internet. The folks over at NeoGAF went ahead and improved on the game by photoshopping an ostrich as a weapon in the game.

The video was supposed to be an April Fool’s joke, but according to an update on Joystiq, the legendary weapon might very well become an actual weapon to be used in the multiplayer portion of the game. Volition. I implore you. Make my dreams come true of commiting ‘Technical Fowl’ against my enemies.

[UPDATE] Volition Layoffs, former employee speaks up

saints row2 boxart 242x300 [UPDATE] Volition Layoffs, former employee speaks upNews broke yesterday, that nearly all the Quality Assurance (QA) in Champaign, Illinois were being laid off. All laid off employees (both full-time and temporary) have been given at least sixty days’ notice and THQ says they will do what they can to assist them in finding work in the community or elsewhere in THQ.
PerezStart spoke to one of the ‘former employees’ of Volition on what exactly went on, and how was it communicated to the staff. The message is below:
We knew it was bad when the VP of Volition spoke first at the meeting. Yesterday we had gotten calendar invites in Outlook to a QA Town Hall. We usually have town halls to discuss the status of current projects, for new projects to be announced, and for the management team to field questions from the testers. If this was a normal meeting, there would have been no reason for the VP to be there.
“I’m here today to speak on behalf of corporate THQ HR, who can’t be here today.” He could have stopped there.
Over the past six months, THQ has been shedding studios left and right. Six studios were cut last October and another two were closed in the past few weeks. Fewer studios means less titles. Less titles means the company needs less QA. From a business standpoint, it makes perfect sense.
Except that it doesn’t.

THQ has finally released their official roster of the upcomigng WWE: Legends of Wrestlemania and my buddy Owen from Kotaku had the pleasure of posting them.  I actually had a chance to play this title at the New York Comic Con, and what I can tell you is that the graphics are amazing.  I played as Andre The Giant, so I know he and Hulk Hogan were featured along with Bobby The Brain Hennan.  Enough of the blabber, show them the list:

• Andre the Giant
• Arn Anderson
• Bam Bam Bigelow
• Big Boss Man
• Big John Studd
• Bobby Heenan
